Acer Chromebook R11 Hands-On

Acer launched a new Chromebook at IFA today. The Chromebook R11 is a lightweight 11.6-inch convertible with a good keyboard and large touchpad. The 1366 x 768 screen is entry-level but the Braswell processor should offer quite a bit more than the ASUS Chromebook Flip that it will compete with. Hands-on video below.

The Acer Chromebook R11 was launched as a ‘work and play’ laptop at IFA today and yes, it’s got a bit more ‘play’ in it than other Chromebooks. Puns-aside, that rotating screen is useful in stand mode but not quite as useful in tablet mode where the 1.25 KG weight ‘plays’ against you. (Sorry!)

On the positive side the build seems to be very strong and stable, there’s a huge trackpad, USB 3.0 port and 2×2 802.11ac WiFi. It’s 19.2mm thick.

Acer only list a ‘Celeron’ processor inside but we saw an N3150 when we took a closer look.

The Acer Chromebook R11 will be available in North America in October starting at $299 and in Europe in November for 299 Euro.

The keyboard seems good, the trackpad seems good and it felt good. The Acer Chromebook R11 is going to perform very well with 4 GB of RAM and will be more fun than the average laptop. Take a look at my hands-on in the video below.
